Oculomotor skills allow us to accurately direct our eyes in the task of reading. This requires the ability to maintain steady visual attention on a target (fixation); the ability to quickly and accurately jump from one target to another (saccades); and, the ability to smoothly follow a moving target (pursuits).
Poor eye movements may account for loss of place when reading, misreading or skipping lines or words, or the need to follow printed words with one's finger.
